Piñata modifies his ship to have massive sharp claws on it so he can disable another contestant's ship (by crushing or puncturing the engine) and use it as a shield to catch the debris. (Since the shrapnel is likely to be sharp and it was stated that it was moving at a high speed, it would get lodged in the metal. And since metal is pretty solid, the shrapnel would probably just stay in there, and it would be less likely to break than a net. To avoid having the glass in the ship's window shatter and create more debris, he'd position the "shield" so that the space junk wouldn't collide with the glass.) The cockpit on the ship has been opened so it can be used to trap things as well, especially the pieces of debris that aren't sharp and traveling at a super high speed. 

I seriously don't get how this challenge works. Wouldn't the gravitational pull of the Moon have been strong enough to keep the satellite debris on the Moon?
